Steven Spielberg’s Robopocalypse is starting to pick up traction. After hearing that Chris Hemsworth was wanted for the lead role and that Anne Hathaway was in talks to co-star, we can now tell you that the director has his eye on another young talent, Ben Whishaw.
Variety reports that the actor is wanted for the role of a hacker named Lurker. No formal offer has been made as of yet but Whishaw is apparently at the top of Spielberg’s list, so it’s a pretty good bet that he’ll join.
For those who don’t know, the film was adapted by Drew Goddard from Daniel H. Wilson’s novel, which is a thriller set in the future “where robots are a part of everyday human life…until a sentient artificial intelligence underneath the ice in Alaska programs them to kill.”
Ben Whishaw is no doubt a talented young actor and with upcoming films like Cloud Atlas and Skyfall on his resume, his profile will only continue to rise. Signing on to a Spielberg film would be a smart career move at this point, especially given how promising this project sounds.
Robopocalypse will film next year and arrive in theatres on April 25th, 2014.
