Apparently, there’s something that Dormammu can’t be bargained for: Lack of scheduling conflicts. Or at least, that’s what the growing situation involving Benedict Cumberbatch’s availability seems to make us think. But regardless of whatever difficulties lie ahead, Doctor Strange‘s involvement in Avengers: Infinity War is a certainty.
By now, pretty much everybody who follows superhero movies is well aware of the Sorcerer Supreme’s inclusion in the film that Marvel Studios have seemingly been building to for a decade. Still, rumors have continued to fly, with some concern being given to the possibility that Cumberbatch will be replaced by a stand-in for a number of scenes.
To that, he said the following in a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight:
“I think it’s a bit of an exaggeration. There’s a great deal that can be done in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and any comic universe. Whether it’s hiding a pregnancy, to having someone there who’s on another side of the world, but there’s only so much they can do without you. So, I’ll be there. Don’t worry.”
From the sound of things, it seems as though a stand-in may be required here and there, but Cumberbatch will be donning the iconic cloak as much as humanly possible. While obviously none of us have read the script for the project, it’s probably safe to assume that Strange will receive a decent amount of screentime.
After all, now that he’s been introduced into this cinematic universe and put up some impressive box office numbers, many moviegoers would no doubt be disappointed if he weren’t suiting up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes in pivotal scenes. Time will tell, of course, but we wouldn’t worry too much at this point.
Avengers: Infinity War opens in theaters on May 4, 2018.
