First Look At Chris Messina As Victor Zsasz In Birds Of Prey Revealed

The new teaser for Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn) clocks in at just under 20 seconds, and much of that runtime is dedicated to unveiling Margot Robbie and her colorful new outfit, but in a series of pause-worthy shots, the preview also shows off several of Harley’s supporting players.

Chris Messina, for instance, can be spotted in the role of Victor Zsasz, a serial killer who’ll likely be working as a henchman for Ewan McGregor’s Black Mask. Based on what the teaser shows us, Victor’s appearance could end up being a bit of a departure from the comics, though Messina at least seems to have the psychopathic grin down right.

In any case, Victor is looking set to face off against Harley and her new friends Huntress, Black Canary and Renee Montoya – played by Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smollett-Bell and Rosie Perez, respectively – as the gang work together to save Cassandra Cain (Ella Jay Basco) from crime lord Black Mask. All of these DCEU newcomers make blink-and-you’ll-miss-it appearances in the teaser, but with production reportedly underway for Birds of Prey, we should hopefully get a few further looks at the cast in the coming months.

Though Suicide Squad received a mixed response from fans and a worse response from critics, Warner Bros. and producer Margot Robbie evidently see real potential in Harley Quinn, who’s set to break away from her relationship with the Joker to carve out her own corner of the cinematic universe. There’s even been a rumor lately that Birds of Prey will be the first in a trilogy focusing on the character, though we’ll find out if this next feature can leave audiences wanting more when the film hits theaters on February 7th, 2020.
