Soon-to-be Black Panther star Angela Bassett has climbed aboard Paramount’s 2018 tentpole, Mission: Impossible 6.
Deadline has the intel, revealing that Bassett is now set to play the as-yet-unnamed CIA director in Christopher McQuarrie’s as-yet-untitled sequel. Filming is already underway on the Paris set of M:I 6, and it wasn’t long before the first photos found their way online, showcasing Tom Cruise back in action as Ethan Hunt.
Ever the one to push himself far, far beyond his comfort zone, the Hollywood daredevil seemingly spent an entire year training for one stunt in particular, and considering that previous entries in the Mission: Impossible franchise have had Tom Cruise dangling from an A380 mid-flight, not to mention scaling the world’s tallest skyscraper in the Burj Khalifa, there’s no telling what Cruise and McQuarrie have in store for 2018. Whatever the case, he’ll be sharing the screen with the Man of Steel himself, Henry Cavill, Rebecca Ferguson, Vanessa Kirky, Alec Baldwin, Bassett and definitely not Jeremy Renner, who is ostensibly finished with the Mission: Impossible series due to his ongoing commitment to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The fuse has been lit, the cameras are officially rolling – all that’s left now is for Mission: Impossible 6 to storm into theaters on July 27th, 2018, and we’ll be bringing you all the latest on Christopher McQuarrie’s star-studded action sequel between now and then. A trip to Wakanda is also on the cards for Angela Bassett, who’s on board to play the part of Ramonda, stepmother of Chadwick Boseman’s T’Challa, in Marvel’s Black Panther spinoff. Look for that one to claw its way into theaters on February 9th, 2018.
