The journey to Paradise begins in Hell, and with almost 20 minutes of additional footage, the Alien: Covenant Blu-ray is one you won’t want to miss.
Nipping at the onyx-colored heels of Monday’s rumor, one which claimed Ridley Scott’s prequel-sequel would make its way onto home video on August 15th, 20th Century Fox has unleashed a brand new Blu-ray promo that invites you on the journey to Paradise. Still no official word on whether that mid-August release date is accurate, but we’ll notify you if and when the studio announces its launch plans for Covenant‘s Blu-ray.
On the other hand, today’s exhilarating teaser is essentially a carbon copy of those that screened before Alien: Covenant‘s theatrical release back in May, albeit with a handful of never-before-seen shots tossed in for good measure. And though the promise of additional footage – footage scattered across deleted and extended scenes – will be enough to hook viewers, the Blu-ray release also comes packing a raft of extras, including an audio commentary from writer-director Ridley Scott as well as a Master Class featurette. It’s almost one hour in length, and likely recounts the process involved in the creation of Alien: Covenant, from its formative days gestating in pre-production to the moment when Scott’s R-rated thrill ride burst onto the silver screen.
Here’s a reminder of those bonus features, courtesy of AvP Galaxy:
- Audio Commentary by Ridley Scott
- 12 Deleted and Extended Scenes (17m 58s)
- 5 Featurettes: Meet Walter (2m 19s), Phobos (9m 8s), The Last Supper (4m 36s), The Crossing (2m 32s), Advent (6m 40s)
- Master Class: Ridley Scott (55m 25s)

Even if some fans walked away from Alien: Covenant disappointed, the movie’s $281 million haul at the international box office – 69 percent of which came from overseas – has been enough to warrant talk of a sequel. It’s one that will seemingly bring Scott’s prequel saga closer to the Alien film that started it all back in ’79, which would all but confirm the inclusion of those towering Engineers.
