‘Blue Beetle’ and ‘The Flash’ stars teaming up may provide photographic evidence of their DCU comebacks

James Gunn might not be done with them yet.

James Gunn’s rebooted DCU won’t officially kick off until 2025, but we’ve still got three more DC movies to come across the rest of 2023, two of which will introduce a couple of exciting next-gen heroes into the franchise. Namely, June’s The Flash sees Sasha Calle debut as Supergirl opposite Ezra Miller’s Scarlet Speedster and Michael Keaton’s Batman while August’s Blue Beetle stars Xolo Maridueña as the titular Jaime Reyes. The big question is, though, will either of them get to return under Gunn?

Those hoping to see more of Calle and Maridueña will be thrilled to find out that the pair of them just teamed up off-screen in order to catch the latest Lakers game together earlier this week. That’s fun enough for DC fans, as it’s no doubt getting them started daydreaming about some kind of Blue Beetle/Supergirl crossover happening in a movie someday, but the situation gets even more interesting when you realize producer Natalia Safran was also in attendance.

Actress and producer Natalia Safran is about to have a lot more sway over the DC universe, alongside her producing partner and husband Peter Safran, who is Gunn’s co-CEO at DC Studios. In fact, she’s already all over the franchise herself, having cameod in numerous films already — although she’s managed to avoid the (patently ridiculous) online backlash directed at Gunn’s own wife, Jennifer Holland.

While Calle, Maridueña, and Safran didn’t go to to the game together, and we don’t currently know if they actually managed to meet while there, the fact that they are evidently swimming in the same social and public circles leaves the door open for the two stars to build a rapport with Safran, increasing their chances of making a DCU comeback in the future.

For the moment, The Flash races into theaters on June 16 while Blue Beetle follows just over two months’ later on Aug. 18.
