On Thursday, the official title and cast of Bond 24 will be revealed during an event on the 007 stage at Pinewood Studios, but us journalists are an impatient bunch, so it’s hardly surprising that the rumor mill continues to churn with regard to actors who may or may not have roles in the upcoming spy thriller. Recently, two intriguing rumors began making the rounds online, from Deadline and The Mirror.
Nancy Tartaglione of Deadline reports, “I’ve also heard that Monica Bellucci may be in the mix.” The acclaimed Italian actress appeared in The Matrix Reloaded, The Passion of the Christ and Don’t Look Back, but her most famous role may be in the brutal Gaspar Noé mystery thriller Irréversible. No details on her role, but it doesn’t take much to guess that Bellucci would be playing a Bond Girl – and honestly, given her long-held status as a sex symbol and one of the world’s most beautiful women, it’s shocking that she hasn’t romanced 007 on the big screen before this point.
Meanwhile, The Mirror states that Andrew Scott, who so memorably brought to life the devious Moriarty in two series of the BBC’s Sherlock, “is set to appear in the new James Bond movie as a villain.” The actor earned raves for playing Moriarty, and The Mirror believes that Scott is on the verge of breaking into Hollywood, like his Sherlock co-stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman before him. The publication adds, “Andrew was hand-picked for a role in the new Bond movie after film bosses loved his star turn in Sherlock.”
There you have it. We’ll know very soon whether or not either of the scoops were accurate, but until then, what do you think? Do either Bellucci or Scott seem like solid additions to Bond 24? Let us know below – after you check out Scott’s incredible work on the season one finale of Sherlock.
So far, only Daniel Craig, Naomie Harris, Ralph Fiennes, Ben Whishaw and Rory Kinnear have been out-and-out confirmed to return in Bond 24, though Christoph Waltz has been heavily tipped for a role.
