One of last year’s sleeper comedy hits Ride Along generated $154 million on a budget of $25 million. Those types of numbers send sequels quickly into development, so it’s no surprise that we’re counting down to the release of Ride Along 2. To amp up excitement for the action comedy, Universal has dropped the first teaser poster featuring the two leads riffing on their pre-existing character traits.

The first movie starred chucklesome duo Ice Cube and Kevin Hart as a mismatched pair forced to spend an inordinate amount of time together in a police car. Hart’s hyperactive police academy rookie falls for the sister of Cube’s grizzled detective, and to prove himself he joins the veteran on a ride along. While it was undoubtedly a critical flop – the film has an 18% Rotten Tomatoes rating – there’s the possibility that the second outing may garner stronger reviews.

Director Tim Story has assembled a starry line-up to accompany Cube and Hart. Boosting the film with a classy pedigree ought to generate solid early buzz, along with the film’s first teaser trailer that’s set to debut this Thursday. Until then, feast your eyes on the new poster below!

Ride Along 2 opens on January 15, 2016 and co-stars Ken Jeong, Benjamin Bratt, Olivia Munn, Bruce McGill, Tika Sumpter and Sherri Shepherd.
