Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence made quite the pair in 2012’s Silver Linings Playbook, which culminated in an Oscar nomination for the actor and a win for the actress. They then both starred in last year’s American Hustle, but unfortunately didn’t share even a second of screen time together. Those of us who found that disappointing will be happy to know that Lawrence and Cooper are reuniting once again and this time, it’s for a period piece from Susanne Bier called Serena.
Serena was actually shot back in the spring of 2012, but the film has gone through a gruelling 18-month post-production process, as Beir is reportedly a perfectionist and spent a great deal of time in the editing room. Based on the novel of the same name by Ron Rash, the film is, at its core, about a woman’ descent into madness. Though we have no news of when Serena may finally premiere, we do have some new images to share with you, along with an official synopsis, both of which you can check out below.
Serena follows newlyweds George (Cooper) and Serena Pemberton (Lawrence) who travel from Boston to the mountains of North Carolina where they begin to build a timber empire in 1929. Serena soon shows herself to be the equal of any man: overseeing crews, hunting rattle-snakes, even saving a man’s life in the wilderness. Together, this king and queen rule their dominion, killing or vanquishing all who stand in the way of their ambitions. But when Serena learns that she can never bear a child, she sets out to murder the woman who bore George a son before his marriage. And when she starts to suspect that George is protecting his illegitimate family, the Pembertons’ intense, passionate marriage begins to unravel as the story moves toward its shocking reckoning.
Serena does not yet have a release date, but we’ll keep you posted when we know more. For now, tell us, are you excited to see Lawrence and Cooper on screen together again?
