When it was first revealed that the Friday the 13th franchise was being rebooted, fans understandably rolled their eyes at the prospect of another underwhelming new take on a classic horror franchise. There are countless examples of great movies in this genre butchered in remakes and reboots, and previous attempts to resurrect Friday the 13th haven’t ended well.
However, in some potentially very good news for fans, it has now been revealed that Breck Eisner is in talks to take the helm of the next take on Friday the 13th. His credits include the likes of Sahara and The Last Witch Hunter, but he impressed horror buffs in a big way with The Crazies a few years back.
Not much is known about the direction of Friday the 13th right now, but Platinum Dunes producer Brad Fuller recently had this to say about writer Aaron Guzikowski’s (Prisoners) script and where it might take the beloved horror icon Jason Voorhees.
“Aarons story has great characters . You kind of have to understand Jason Voorhees, so we go back and we kind of started over and work our way forward. [It will be] origin-ish, but its an origin that no one has seen before. Obviously Pamelas there, but its a little bit different from what youve seen before.”
Honestly, this version of Friday the 13th may very well have some serious potential, and it’s going to be interesting to see how it shapes up from here. Now that a director is being eyed by Paramount Pictures, more details about the new Friday the 13th will hopefully be revealed soon.
