Following the tragic events at the end of Avengers: Infinity War, the galaxy’s greatest protectors are in a pretty rough spot. I mean, not only did they fail to stop the Mad Titan from wiping out half the universe, but many of their own have been lost – including such heavy-hitters as Doctor Strange, Black Panther, Vision and more. Still, let’s try and find the bright side in all this, as at least some of the most powerful heroes are still standing for Avengers 4, with Captain Marvel on her way.
Yes, we’re now just under six months away from Carol Danvers’ solo outing hitting our screens, and it’s already clear that she’s going to play a very big role in determining the direction that the Marvel Cinematic Universe takes from here – and not just because she’s apparently the most super-powered character of the franchise thus far. Make no mistake about it, the studio has some very exciting things in store for Ms. Danvers and at long last, they’ve finally kicked the marketing machine into high gear.
After this morning brought with it the first trailer for Captain Marvel – which was a fantastic tease of what’s to come, with Brie Larson looking like she’s absolutely owning the role, even from the small amount of footage we saw – we now have the first poster. Seen below, it has the actress striking a pose with the film’s tagline reading: Higher. Further. Faster.
It’s not the most revealing one-sheet, but it’s just the first in what will likely be a long line of them. And we imagine the next one will show off some of the exciting supporting cast. Because from a young Nick Fury to the young, untrained Agent Coulson, Captain Marvel is very much rooted in the DNA of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It’s also about to blaze a path of its own through the cosmos, too, which is all the more exciting when you remember that the movie will be straddling the line between MCU Phase 3 and Phase 4.
How exactly it’ll bring Carol out of the 1990s and into the current timeline remains to be seen, of course, but all will be revealed once the standalone Captain Marvel film checks into theaters early next year, by which point we should have a much better understanding of both Avengers 4 and what to expect from Phase 4 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
