Brit Marling And Michael Pitt Join Cast Of Mike Cahill’s I Origins

The next project from Another Earth director Mike Cahill; I Origins has secured the all-of-a-sudden-everywhere Brit Marling and Boardwalk Empire's Michael Pitt to star. There's nothing like a grammatically-challenged film title to bag a bunch of Hollywood's finest. Marling and Cahill worked together previously on 2011's low-key sci-fi winner Another Earth and Marling has followed the film's success by starring in a cluster of smaller flicks. Her latest outing, anarchist-thriller The East with Juno star Ellen Page, is set to land in cinemas in May.

The next project from Another Earth director Mike Cahill, I Origins has secured the all-of-a-sudden-everywhere Brit Marling and Boardwalk Empire‘s Michael Pitt to star. There’s nothing like a grammatically-challenged film title to bag a bunch of Hollywood’s finest. Marling and Cahill worked together previously on 2011’s low-key sci-fi winner Another Earth and Marling has followed the film’s success by starring in a cluster of smaller flicks. Her latest outing, anarchist-thriller The East with Juno star Ellen Page, is set to land in cinemas in May.

Unlike their first collaboration when both handled scripting duties, this time Cahill will be writing I Origins alone. The film follows Pitt’s character, a molecular biologist, who together with Marling’s lab partner uncovers evidence which may change society as we know it. From that meagre offering of a synopsis so far, there are definite similarities to last year’s ultra-divisive Prometheus although it’s unlikely I Origins will pit Charlize Theron against a giant donut. Whichever route Cahill takes, it sounds like the film is aiming to be an equally earth-shattering (ahem) bit of cerebral sci-fi.

Pitt, who was last seen on the big screen in Seven Psychopaths, has completed work on hobo-prostitute buddy flick, You Can’t Win and his next production is The First, a Hollywood biopic of Mary Pickford alongside Julia Stiles and David Strathairn has yet to start filming. It looks like we’ve a while to go before I Origins begins shooting.

Rounding out the rest of the cast are Steven Yeun, on a hiatus from The Walking Dead, Astrid Bergès-Frisbey last seen in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides and The Good Wife‘s Archie Panjabi.  No news on the shape of their roles.

Are you excited about the prospect of I Origins, another brainy sci-fi flick from wunderteam Cahill and Marling?
