British Artist Sam Smith In Talks To Sing Bond 24 Theme Song

According to the New York Post, British singer Sam Smith is now the frontrunner to bag the coveted role, edging out Lana Del Ray and Rita Ora. The 22-year-old is perhaps best known for his hit single “Stay With Me” and, if this report proves to be correct, then Smith’s career is about to get a monumental shot in the arm.

When preparing for a James Bond film, there are a selection of indelible milestones that need to be met. Of course, the role of the titular spy needs to be filled, followed by a formidable villain. Then comes the addition of the Bond girl — be it femme fatale or love interest — and finally, the film’s main theme.

During the modern era of Bond flicks, we’ve already had some great title songs, including Chris Cornell’s rendition for Casino Royale and, more recently, Adele’s melancholic Skyfall. So, with Bond 24 looming on the horizon, ardent fans of Ian Fleming’s agent have wondered which artist will lend their talent to score Sam Mendes sequel.

Well, according to the New York Post, British singer Sam Smith is now the frontrunner to bag the coveted role, edging out Lana Del Ray and Rita Ora. The 22-year-old is perhaps best known for his hit single “Stay With Me” and, if this report proves to be correct, then Smith’s career is about to get a monumental shot in the arm.

Sam Mendes’ as-yet-untitled Bond 24 is due to be released next year and will see the return of Daniel Craig as the spy in the tailored suit. Joining Craig for the film are Ralph Fiennes, Naomie Harris, and Ben Whishaw. Last we reported of the project Guardians of the Galaxy star Dave Bautista was in line to play the villain Hinx, though that rumour has since fizzled out.

With production due to get underway in December ahead of a planned release in October, 2015, we’ll likely learn much more about Bond 24’s supporting roles in the months to come.
