Even with Ash vs. Evil Dead still kicking all kinds of ass, one can never be too sure of the longevity of any given series. Really, decisions regarding renewals and cancellations are ultimately up to the networks themselves, so all we the viewers can ever do is to keep on watching and hope for the best.
Still, even with serialized formats allowing for broader storytelling and more character development, fans clamor for a fourth entry set in the original Evil Dead timeline of films. In fact, the demand has been there since after Army of Darkness had its run, but nothing ever came to fruition.
The possibility for another theatrical outing exists, though, but it’s contingent on the fate of the currently running series. For more on that front, check out what Bruce Campbell had to say in a recent discussion with Entertainment Weekly:
“We won’t know [if we’ve been renewed] till the middle of March. We’re in the horrible television limbo right now. If they take us off the air, we can think about another movie. And if they don’t, we can just keep plugging away.”
Now, I’d normally say returning to originally set timelines would be unlikely, especially with Evil Dead getting a remake of its own a few years back. But if the upcoming Halloween sequel and a RoboCop flick that’s in early planning stages can teach us anything, it’s that this method of continuing a franchise is now fully possible.
Either way, the fans are the winners here. If Ash vs. Evil Dead gets renewed, you’re guaranteed more adventures. If not, the journey to the silver screen begins anew. Personally, I’d prefer a sure bet like the former, but that’s just me.
