Though Walter White is off cooking crystal in heaven, Emmy winner Bryan Cranston is still breaking bad in his new role as a Polish gangster in the thriller Cold Comes the Night. Cranston co-stars with Alice Eve (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Logan Marshall-Green (Prometheus) in the film, which will simultaneously hit theaters and VOD this January.
Today, a new crop of images for Cold Comes the Night has landed online. Though the pics, which you can check out at the bottom of this article, don’t provide much information about Cold Comes the Night‘s plot, the official synopsis clears things up a bit:
A struggling motel owner (Eve) and her daughter are taken hostage by a nearly blind career criminal (Cranston) to be his eyes as he attempts to retrieve his cash package from a crooked cop (Marshall-Green).
That January release date is a little disheartening, considering the month is typically considered a graveyard where studios dump their turkeys (its competition is the Kellan Lutz-starring Hercules: The Legend Begins). However, Cranston will likely turn in a terrific performance as the conflicted antagonist, so I’ll be keeping my eye on Cold Comes the Night for that reason alone. Hopefully the actor’s well-established ability to humanize the most evil of characters won’t get buried under the Eastern European/Slavic accent that he’s adopted for this role.
In addition to the images, you can watch a couple of clips recently released over in the UK. In the first, Eve has a tense discussion at the table with Cranston, in which she attempts to learn a little more about the man holding her and her daughter hostage:
In the second clip, Eve’s character is coerced into entering a compound to retrieve something that Cranston’s character requires in order to carry out his scheme against Marshall-Green’s corrupt cop. It’s a taught but short scene:
Neither clip is particularly exhilarating, but Cranston did prove to be a master of slow-burn on Breaking Bad, so it’s entirely possible that he could work his magic on this project as well.
Cold Comes the Night arrives on January 10th, 2014.
