Throughout his long and celebrated tenure on Breaking Bad, Bryan Cranston had his fair share of run-ins with the DEA (Drugs Enforcement Agency) as chemistry teacher turned drug lord, Walter White. And now, it looks as though the award-winning actor is set be involved with the agency once again after he has entered talks to star in crime thriller, The Infiltrator.
Taking inspiration from the memoirs of Robert Mazur — a Tampa resident and undercover agent for the DEA — the film has been described as an investigative thriller centring around Mazur who, after infiltrating a renown financial institution, seeks out to bring down the infamous Colombian drug lord, Pablo Escobar.
Currently, we’re not sure exactly which role Cranston will play in the film — mind you, Heisenberg versus Escobar sure sounds like a show-stopping encounter. What we do know is that filming is due to get underway in January, with on location shooting planned in London, Paris and of course, Florida itself.
Good Films, the England-based company overseeing The Infiltrator, also announced that the film will be directed by Brad Furman, whose previous filmmaking credits include The Lincoln Lawyer. As we alluded to earlier, Furman’s latest project will no doubt take cues from the book, The Infiltrator: My Secret Life Inside the Dirty Banks Behind Pablo Escobar’s Medellin Cartel, with Ellen Brown Furman on board to transition the thriller from novel to film.
We know that Brad Furman and Bryan Cranston have already collaborated for 2011’s aforementioned thriller, The Lincoln Lawyer, so it’ll be fascinating to see how the creative pair take on a DEA-centric narrative with The Infiltrator.
We’ll be sure to keep you updated with all the news regarding Cranston’s latest role as it develops. Until then, you can let us know your own thoughts on this piece of casting in the comments.
