Shortly after initial reports alluding to an extended X-Men: Days Of Future Past cut hit the web, the man behind the mutant sequel stepped up to issue his official position on the matter. Bryan Singer, whose social media presence permeates production on all of his movies, has now addressed the topic of the long-rumored ‘Rogue Cut’ for last year’s blockbuster.

After a number of sites yesterday reported that the BBFC had passed a new cut of DoFP purported to be 11 minutes and 11 seconds longer than the theatrical version, Singer hit Twitter to clarify the movie’s status:

The first word on the ‘Rogue Cut’ emerged late last year. Following the completion of principal photography on the movie, Singer announced that even though Anna Paquin had shot scenes and even contributed to the movie’s marketing campaign as the mutant Rogue, the main bulk of her story arc was resigned to the cutting room floor.

After expressing his regret over the decision, Singer and producer Simon Kinberg set about crafting a brand new extended version of the movie which would reinstate Paquin’s scenes.

Kinberg announced the following last year:

“It’s a big chunk, a substantial part of the movie. We want to give fans the fullest picture of the film — behind the camera, and in front of it, with the “Rogue Cut” and provide more of the process we went through to make the film… Every movie has scenes that are cut out, but not every movie has scenes cut out with such a beloved character.”

Thought to be a way to bridge the gap between sequels, the X-Men: Days Of Future Past ‘Rogue Cut’ is currently without a release date, but is expected to arrive sometime later this year. While fans who have previously purchased the film will understandably be dismayed at having to shell out for it again, Fox may be able to persuade them. Not only will the home video release include the aforementioned extended version, but it will also host a brand new set of extras.
