New Captain America: The Winter Soldier Featurette Focuses On Black Widow, Who Still Might Get A Solo Movie

It probably wouldn't be too controversial to say that the stand-out star of the Marvel cinematic universe so far has been Scarlett Johansson's Black Widow. She first appeared in Iron Man 2, followed by The Avengers and now Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Despite being a more minor character in the comic books, she has pretty much stolen every scene in which she has appeared in the movies. She hasn't yet had a movie of her own, but with as popular as her character is, perhaps that will change.

It probably wouldn’t be too controversial to say that the stand-out star of the Marvel cinematic universe so far has been Scarlett Johansson’s Black Widow. She first appeared in Iron Man 2, followed by The Avengers and now Captain America: The Winter SoldierDespite being a more minor character in the comic books, she has pretty much stolen every scene in which she has appeared in the movies. She hasn’t yet had a movie of her own, but with as popular as her character is, perhaps that will change.

The latest featurette to hit the web for Captain America: The Winter Soldier focuses on Black Widow, with various actors from the movie discussing her relationship with the Captain and her role in the movie. It’s a bit of marketing aimed squarely at fans of her roles in the previous outings, and those fans are probably going to be quite excited.

Black Widow supporters have been pretty vocal about how much they want her to have her own solo movie, and Marvel has been listening. We’ve heard Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige talk before about the possibility of such a movie, and three years later… well, there still hasn’t been one. But that doesn’t mean Feige’s position has changed. During a press conference, he said the following:

“I think the idea would be great. We’ve got various outlines and ideas of where to take that. As Scarlett already said, there’s a big element that explores her back story in an upcoming Marvel feature. The question really is, ‘When will we take her out of the ensemble and have her do her own thing?’ As you saw in [Captain America: The Winter Soldier], as you’ll see in Avengers: Age of Ultron, she’s really the key to so much of the plot development.”

That certainly doesn’t mean a Black Widow movie is a sure thing, but at least they’re still considering it. For the most part, the Marvel films have been mostly male dominated, and it would be nice to see that change. Until then, at least we’ll get to see a whole lot of Black Widow in Captain America: The Winter Soldier when it hits theaters nationwide on April 4th.
