Following in the footsteps of Jon Favreau’s Iron Man, which took the world by storm ($585 million) and cemented Robert Downey Jr.’s place as a future figurehead of the fledgling MCU, The First Avenger was a defining moment for both Marvel Studios and its title hero.
Back in 2011, Captain America hadn’t been introduced to mainstream Hollywood, and it was only through Joe Johnston’s solid WWII actioner that film fans began to stand up and take notice of the star-spangled patriot, whose first port of call was toppling the über-villain known as Red Skull. And though he’s not exactly the most memorable of villains – even by Marvel’s own lowly standards – Hugo Weaving still turned in a performance to remember, and CBM has today offered a chance to go up close and personal with the demonic baddie via some newly-unveiled Captain America concept art.
