It’s hard to believe that Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) made his solo screen debut almost seven years ago with Captain America: The First Avenger. Brother, for all intents and purposes, to James Buchanan “Bucky” Barnes (Sebastian Stan), with whom he battled intensely in The Winter Soldier, many expected, myself included, that Cap would meet his maker at the hands of Thanos in Avengers: Infinity War last month.
While that didn’t materialize, several other MCU characters bit the dust, some more painfully than others. This left team leaders Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), Thor (Chris Hemsworth), and of course, Cap, to assemble their remaining forces and prepare for an all-out assault on the Mad Titan (Josh Brolin) in Avengers 4.
Apart from a release date of May 3rd, 2019, and that co-directors Anthony and Joe Russo will be returning behind the camera, though, not much is known about the twenty-second MCU installment. Earlier this week, however, co-writer of Infinity War, Stephen McFeely, provided some insight into the impending blockbuster, revealing that both Captain Marvel and Ant-Man and the Wasp will be tied to the events of Avengers 4.
For obvious reasons, McFeely didn’t get into too much detail, but during a completely separate sit-down, this time with The Playlist, the screenwriter disclosed that those hoping for more of Captain America in Avengers 4 are in luck, as the star-spangled man will have a “very intense arc” in the upcoming sequel.
Honestly, given the way Avengers: Infinity War concluded, and that co-writers McFeely and Christopher Markus have gone on the record saying Avengers 4 won’t retract all of the deaths featured in its predecessor, what this “very intense arc” entails, exactly…well, your guess is as good as ours.
If one thing’s for certain, though, it’s that those who might’ve been disappointed with how little screentime Rogers got in Infinity War will likely be pleased with his role in next May’s blockbuster. From the sounds of it, he’s going to be featured a lot more prominently and given that Chris Evans’ time in the MCU is almost up, that can only be a good thing.
