Back in September, the first teaser for the upcoming Captain Marvel left a lot of casual MCU fans confused and a little shocked with its clip of Brie Larson punching an old lady in the face. The latest trailer, however, offers some clarification right off the bat, explaining that “Skrulls are the bad guys,” before revealing the assaulted woman to be one of these shape-shifting beings.
From here, the trailer proceeds to throw a whole load of footage our way, and amidst all the Earth and space-based action is another glimpse of how Carol Danvers’ alien foes look when they’re not in disguise. Specifically, we get a nice close-up of Skrull leader Talos, who’s played by Ben Mendelsohn under all that makeup. Though you can expect this green-skinned villain to appear prominently in Captain Marvel’s solo debut, Talos won’t always be looking so inhuman, with the character also working undercover within S.H.I.E.L.D. as the boss of a young Nick Fury.
A couple of weeks ago, Mendelsohn went on record assuring fans that Marvel Studios’ next picture will be “something really special,” praising he script in particular as “finely crafted” and “absolutely beautiful.” And while it’s still a few months now before we can put his words to the test, the internet at least seems overwhelmingly pleased with the new trailer, kicking off this important week for MCU promotion on a strong note.
In the coming days, it’s said that we could be seeing new teasers for both Avengers 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home, but in the meantime, fans have been given a lot to process as they look ahead to the release of Captain Marvel on March 8th, 2019.
