Captain Marvel Has Officially Been Rated PG-13

We’ve been hearing quite a lot of talk lately from sources both official and unofficial that Marvel Studios has plans to branch out into R-rated territory. But while the next Deadpool and Black Widow movies might well end up being unusually adult by Disney standards, it should come as no surprise that Captain Marvel will be keeping it family-friendly.

The MPAA has officially issued their rating for Carol Danvers’ solo debut, and as was generally expected, it’s a PG-13. But while this is hardly the most stunning of revelations, the news does tell us that the theatrical cut of the movie is now complete, meaning that we should also get some confirmation on the film’s runtime soon enough.

Though Captain Marvel is still over a month away from reaching cinemas, a few fans have already managed to catch some early screenings, and the reactions so far look to be overwhelmingly positive, with viewers having very enthusiastic words to say about the film’s titular heroine, as well as her cat Goose.

Such praise has only added to the considerable levels of hype behind the Brie Larson-led flick, which managed to chart high in the ‘Most Anticipated Films of 2019’ lists of quite a few polls and publications. Early projections, meanwhile, suggest a strong opening weekend for the film, with Box Office Pro recently predicting a domestic gross of $160 million in its first three days, beating out the likes of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 and Thor: Ragnarok over the same period.

All in all, things bode very well for Captain Marvel, but you can judge for yourself if the movie is worth all the hype when it arrives in theaters on March 8th, 2019.
