While we’ve been repeatedly assured that every Marvel character that has already been introduced will appear in Avengers: Infinity War, we have yet to hear confirmation about the much anticipated Captain Marvel – due to be played by Brie Larson in the MCU’s first female-led movie.
Though her casting was announced a full year ago, the popular comic book hero has yet to make her big screen debut. It doesn’t sound like that will change with Joe and Anthony Russo’s aforementioned flick, either, as we’re learning today that she won’t be making an appearance in it – despite rumors to the contrary.
Just last week, it seemed like the studio was preparing to shoot some additional scenes for Infinity War in order to make room for a Captain Marvel cameo. However, if Joe is to be believed, that’s simply not true. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con this past weekend, he told the press that the character would not be involved in the film. Of course, he could be lying to keep her appearance a secret and thus a surprise for fans, but we’re inclined to believe him.
Then again, it’d make a lot of sense if Marvel were to sneak her in for a quick scene or two. After all, this would echo the way in which both Black Panther and Spider-Man were introduced during Captain America: Civil War, ahead of their own solo movies, Black Panther and Spider-Man: Homecoming.
By introducing Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel in some way during Avengers: Infinity War in 2018, her own standalone outing is then set up, with it being due for release before the fourth Avengers movie, which will be with us in May of 2019. Presumably, she would then play a larger role in that film with a view to being a core member of Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for Phase Four, which begins with Spider-Man: Homecoming 2.
One way or another, all will be revealed when Avengers: Infinity War arrives in cinemas on May 4th, 2018.
