Elijah Wood, that friendly looking chap who once starred as the sensitive ring-bearing hobbit Frodo in The Lord of the Rings movies and talks to dogs on FX, has a bit of a thing for psychopaths, apparently. Remember his absurd turn as the mentally-deranged cannibal Kevin in Sin City? Well now there’s this, the trailer for Maniac, which once again puts Wood front and centre as an absolute madman. Seriously, check it out below.
Maniac tells the heart-warming story of a lonely mannequin store owner who befriends a pretty hipster type. She asks him to help with her latest exhibition, and he goes on to… well, horribly murder people and cut of their scalps, according to the trailer. The trailer’s music, for some reason, also sounds a lot like “The World Is Yours” track from Scarface. Is Al Pacino set to make a cameo?
Directed by Franck Khalfoun and also starring America Olivo and Liane Balaban, Maniac will open in France on 26 December 2012 and elsewhere soon after.
What do you make of this bloody little trailer, then? Is it a good thing that Elijah Wood is seeking out parts like this?
