David O. Russell is on a roll right now. After The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook released to much critical acclaim, the director has become a hot commodity in Hollywood. His next film, American Hustle, is set for a December 25th release date (as it will no doubt be an awards contender) and now, we have the first trailer.
Set to Led Zeppelin’s Good Times, Bad Times, the footage doesn’t offer up much dialogue, but it shows off the setting in a very effective manner. Plus, we also see all of the cast members in their 1970’s outfits. Christian Bale, Jennifer Lawrence, Bradley Cooper, Jeremy Renner, Amy Adams, they’re all here and they all look to be having a great time.
In case you’re not familiar with American Hustle, it was inspired by the true story of the ABSCAM operation, “in which a financial con artist (Bale) and his mistress/partner in crime (Adams) are forced to work with an out of control federal agent (Cooper) to turn the tables on other con artists, mobsters and politicians.”
Having loved both The Fighter and Silver Linings Playbook, as well as some of the director’s earlier efforts (Three Kings anyone?), I’m definitely excited about American Hustle. That cast is to die for and it looks like Russell is really bringing the era to life as the costumes and sets look great. Mark December 25th down in your calendar folks, you are not going to want to miss this one.
