Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s directorial debut Don Jon was a big hit at Sundance this year, and now, after a few edits and a title change, the film is almost ready for its theatrical release. Today, we have for you a brand new trailer, showing off a sample of what will be coming our way next month.
While not as long as our first look at the film, this trailer is still quite funny. Gordon-Levitt’s co-star Scarlett Johansson has a lot of very humorous (and meta) lines and while we get to see Gordon-Levitt getting funky to some Marky Mark, nothing new about the plot is revealed.
For those who don’t know, Don Jon tells the story of Don Martello, whose life is driven by his need for a great body, a great car, a great family and an even greater addiction to porn. As he finds himself drawn to Barbara (Scarlett Johansson), he must choose between self-gratification and taking a chance on a real relationship
Considering this is a movie about sex and porn addiction, it’s probably not the sort of movie you want to take the kids to. And the version we’ll be getting in theatres is apparently milder than what was shown at festivals. It turned out that the festival version wasn’t even going to scrape an R rating, so Gordon-Levitt did a new edit in order to avoid an NC-17. That makes sense, and obviously it’ll make more money due to having an R rating, but it’s a shame that those who weren’t at Sundance won’t be able to see the film in its original form. Hopefully the Blu-Ray includes both versions of the film, but for now, we’ll have to be content with the edited version.
Co-starring Julianne Moore, Tony Danza, Brie Larson and Glenne Headly, Don Jon hits the big screen September 27, 2013. Check out the new trailer below and then head down to the comments section to share your thoughts.
