According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Hemsworth and Charlie Day have signed on to star in New Line’s “reboot-slash-remake” of Vacation, the 1980s comedy series led by Chevy Chase. With a script by Day’s Horrible Bosses scribes, John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (who will also be making their directorial debut with the film), things certainly seem promising for the project.
Already set to star is Ed Helms, who will be taking on the role of Rusty Griswold (Clark Griswold’s son). Though plot details are scarce, from what we know, apparently Rusty will be looking to take his family (which includes Christina Applegate as his wife) on a road trip. As for Hemsworth and Day, the Thor actor will be playing Rusty’s brother-in-law, Stone Crandall, while the latter will be making a small cameo as a “river-rafting guide.”
Shooting on Vacation is set to get underway in September, so we should be getting more updates shortly. Though at this point, it looks like the cast is mostly filled out and things are all set to go.
We’ll continue to keep our eye on this one as things develop, but for now, tell us, are you ready to see a Vacation “reboot-slash-remake,” or is this one property that should be left alone? Sound off in the comments section below!
