Paul Feig’s star-studded, female-led Ghostbusters reboot has gained a buff leading man after all: Thor himself, Chris Hemsworth. But, in typical Feig fashion, expectations will be subverted and flipped as Hemsworth won’t be donning a proton pack and saving the world. Instead, he’ll be answering the phones for Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as the Ghostbusters’ receptionist.
The clerical role was filled by Annie Potts in the original Ghostbusters and the character was a hilarious foil for the team who struck up a relationship with Harold Ramis’ character, Egon. I wonder if Hemsworth will take on a similar role, coke-bottle glasses and all…
[zerg]This marks yet another comedic turn for Hemsworth, who has spent the majority of his career leading action films like Thor, Snow White and the Huntsman and Blackhat. This year will see his first attempt at comedy, as he has a supporting role in the Vacation reboot. Perhaps he has a thing for beloved 80’s comedies?
Not much is yet known about the Ghostbusters reboot, other than it will be a full-on restart for the franchise, and not a sequel. Shooting is expected to begin soon, however, so we should be getting more casting and plot news in the coming weeks.
The Ghostbusters reboot will hit theaters on July 22nd, 2016.
