Daniel Craig hasn’t even finished filming his final movie as 007 yet, but everyone’s always talking about who could take over from him to be the next James Bond. One of the most well-established stars who’s been linked to the role in the past is Chris Hemsworth. Though it seems the Australian actor’s own vote for who should play the super spy is his fellow Thor star Idris Elba.
While speaking to Variety about all aspects of his career, the topic of those Bond rumors came up. Naturally, Hemsworth would be open to the idea of playing the iconic secret agent. However, if he got to cast the role himself, he’d hire Elba, who he’s worked with a lot in the MCU.
“My vote would be Idris,” said the actor. “I think he’d give it a different sort of swagger, too, and each time someone new comes into the role, I think you’ve got to offer up something different.”
Elba is certainly a fan favorite to take over from Craig. The two actors had even lampooned all the speculation when they crossed paths at the last Golden Globes. A UK poll recently named him the country’s top choice to be James Bond No. 7 as well, while 52% of Americans say they would accept a black actor as the character. All this aside, Elba himself has played down the talk many times already.
Funnily enough though, Hemsworth and Elba aren’t the only members of the Thor franchise to be linked to the role, as Tom Hiddleston is yet another actor said to be in the running to play Bond. Clearly, those Asgardians have got the stuff that Her Majesty’s Secret Service is looking for in their best agents.
Bond 25‘s production has been temporarily put on hold after Daniel Craig suffered an ankle injury during filming, but the plan is for it start up again soon so that James Bond can return in time for the pic’s scheduled release date of April 8th, 2020.
