Chris Pine and Ben Foster, two actors involved in the summer blockbuster window thanks to Star Trek Beyond and Warcraft: The Beginning, will soon headline David Mackenzie’s thriller Hell or High Water as brothers-in-arms.
Set to make its bow towards the end of blockbuster season in August, today brings forth the film’s explosive first trailer, placing Jeff Bridges’ gruff West Texas Ranger on the trail of Pine and Foster’s scheming brothers. Driven to the point of desperation, the siblings hatch plans for a seemingly foolproof bank robbery in their local town, eventually teeing up a collision course with Bridges’ Ranger.
Even from today’s trailer it’s hard to shake that familiar ‘been there, done that’ vibe, but between them, Pine, Foster and Bridges have enough star power to spin out a potential sleeper hit. What’s more, Mackenzie’s picture is also in attendance at Cannes after muscling its way into the Un Certain Regard section.
Come Hell or High Water, Pine and Foster will orchestrate the most daring bank heist of their lives, and you’ll be able to see David Mackenzie’s low-key thriller in action when it opens via limited release on August 12, before expanding nationwide on August 26.
