Deadline is reporting that Guardians of the Galaxy star Chris Pratt is now in talks with MGM to join the Antoine Fuqua-directed remake of The Magnificent Seven, which already has Denzel Washington in the lead role.
Though the actor’s discussions with the studio are only in the early stages, he’s apparently eyeing one of the titular gunmen. For those unfamiliar with the original John Sturges-directed pic, it focused on a group of seven expert gunmen who are tasked to protect a small town from bandits. Yul Brynner, Steve McQueen and Charles Bronson starred in the 1960 version and it is widely considered to be a classic.
For the remake, Roger Birnbaum will be producing with a script from True Detective creator Nic Pizzolatto that has since been re-written by John Lee Hancock. No word yet on who the studio has their eye on for the other five gunmen, but they’re clearly aiming high with this one, so expect an exciting cast to be assembled.
As for Pratt, he’s amongst one of the most sought after leading men in Hollywood at the moment, and for good reason. After his fantastic turn in Guardians of the Galaxy, he became a bankable movie star and is now part of several mega franchises. Whether or not he’ll have time to fit this film in is up for debate, but if he does, he’ll make a fantastic addition to what’s looking to be a very promising remake.
