Chris Pratt’s kid adores Mario just like any other children his age, and the aor has confirmed that lending his voice to the character in The Super Mario Bros. Movie has officially made him a “cool dad.”
In an interview with ET Online, Pratt and Charlie Day spoke about their roles as onscreen brothers Mario and Luigi. The pair admitted that both of their kids were big fans of Nintendo and all things Mario, so their involvement in the film has earned them some cool points. Pratt’s kid, Jack, whom he shares with ex-wife Anna Faris, is a dedicated Super Smash Bros player, although he admits that his son prefers Luigi over Mario.
“Like he plays Smash Brothers and he’s like, ‘Dad, I own at Smash, I own everybody at Smash. And I’m Luigi. I think Luigi is a better player.”
Whilst Pratt may not be voicing Jack’s favorite character, he does get to be the voice of maybe the most iconic video game character of all-time.
While he certainly has his son’s approval, fans of the Italian Plumber haven’t always been super excited about the prospect of Pratt being his voice, based on the outcry when the actor’s voice was first heard in the trailer.
However, subsequent promos have seemingly quelled the outrage at least a little bit, as many are now looking forward to hearing the Guardian’s of the Galaxy alum as Mario, even if they’re keeping their pitchforks sharpened just in case.
Pratt went on to speak about how the movie holds nostalgic value for him as he grew up playing Super Mario Bros. on the original Nintendo Entertainment System, so we also know he has a longtime passion for the material. Regardless of what fans think, it seems Pratt will always have a fan in his son.
