Christopher Nolan is a director who likes to use the same actors over and over again, and why wouldn’t he? Almost all of his films are near-masterpieces, and his casts always do impeccable jobs. So, it’s no surprise then that for his upcoming WWII action-thriller, Dunkirk, the director has pulled in some familiar faces.

We already know that Tom Hardy, Mark Rylance and Kenneth Branagh have roles in the film, among others, and today, we’re hearing that frequent Nolan collaborator, Cillian Murphy, has signed on as well. No word yet on who he’ll be playing, but we do know that the film tells the story of the “evacuation of Dunkirk during the British military operation that saved 330,000 lives as Allied soldiers were surrounded by German forces.”

Murphy and Hardy won’t be the only talents returning to work with Nolan here, as Interstellar cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema is on board as well, and the two are planning to shoot the film on both IMAX 65mm and 65mm large-format. Furthermore, another Nolan favorite, Hans Zimmer, is on scoring duties for the film.

So, it looks like a solid team that the director’s assembled then, and with the May start date quickly approaching, you can be sure that we’ll be getting some more information on what to expect from Dunkirk in the near future.

For now, however, color us excited. Getting to see Christopher Nolan try his hand at a historical epic should be a lot of fun, and while there are certainly other projects we would have preferred see him do, this one is definitely shaping up to be quite promising.
