I guess this news isn’t terribly surprising but director Matt Reeves has confirmed that we will indeed see Cloverfield 2. Reeves recently spoke to Total Film and told them that the film is coming, he just doesn’t know when. It’s understandable as Reeves and producer J.J. Abrams have both been busy. Especially Abrams who seems to be one of the busiest men in Hollywood right now. Speculation surrounding the sequel seems to have people thinking that Cloverfield 2 may not be a direct sequel. Rather, it may take place parallel to the events in the first one. Although I’d like to see a direct sequel, the parallel story idea could work. Read on to see exactly what Reeves had to say.
Well, you are going to see it – we just don’t know when [laughs]. At the moment we are talking about the story quite a lot. Drew Goddard, who wrote the original, is going to pen the sequel and JJ Abrams is very much involved. However, the three of us have been so busy that getting the right idea together has been taking a long time.
Despite a lot of people hating the first film, I really liked Cloverfield. I’ve seen it a number of times now and I would love to see a sequel, whether it be a direct sequel or a parallel story. Anything Abrams is involved in usually turns out quite well and Reeves managed to impress me with his last outing, Let Me In. Unfortunately, it will be some time before we see a sequel. Reeves is starting to get a lot more offers now and of course Abrams is working on a whole variety of projects, one of which, the Star Trek sequel, is probably his top priority.
What do you think? Eager to see a Cloverfield sequel?
