Ten years ago, Matt Reeves and J.J. Abrams redefined the parameters of the found-footage film with Cloverfield, a relatively low-key creature feature that birthed the strangest Hollywood film series of modern times.
Dan Trachtenberg and Co. took things in a decidedly different direction with 10 Cloverfield Lane, and though it was initially scheduled for release in February of 2017, a third Cloverfield movie is on the way. And it’s no longer going by the name God Particle.
Cloverfield Station is the hot new moniker kicking around online, and though it’s yet to be confirmed by Bad Robot, the studio has wasted no time in launching a viral marketing campaign for what is, essentially, Cloverfield 3. It’s as weird and cryptic as you’d expect, with links to a scrambled video loop in which you’ll be able to see a woman with glasses partaking in what looks to be some form of desperate video log.
As if that wasn’t enough, Reddit has also picked apart a website by the name of ‘http://tagruato.jp/‘, with many believing that this “Tagruato” is actually the corporation behind the so-called god particle.
A deciphered version of the website reads as so, though we’re not exactly sure what it means…
Tokyo – January 18, 2018, Tagruato has begun development on a revolutionary new energy technology. In what Ceo Ganu Yoshida called a technological great leap forward for our planet. This renewable technology will take at least 4 years to complete with along with another six years. International regulatory bodies to bring the powerful revolutionary energy source by April 18th, 2028
What we do know, however, is that Cloverfield 3 features an all-star cast – including Daniel Brühl, star of The Alienist and Captain America: Civil War. He spoke to Collider earlier today about his limited knowledge of the third Cloverfield movie, not to mention the fact that Bad Robot is keeping any and all details under lock and key.
Yes, it was, and my knowledge is zero. I went to UCLA and I met some very brilliant students and scientists there. It was only 2% of the information that I was given by them that I remotely understood. It’s based on many interesting ideas about a near future scenario, which is an interesting vision of what could happen or what might happen with the Earth. I’m bit scared to talk about it because it’s so extremely secretive. I’m afraid of ending up in a Bad Robot prison.
Headed up by Julius Onah, the remainder of the cast list features Elizabeth Debicki, Aksel Hennie, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Chris O’Dowd, John Ortiz, David Oyelowo, and Zhang Ziyi.
Cloverfield 3 – or God Particle or Cloverfield Station – will drop into theaters on April 20th, at which point we should have a better understanding of Onah’s space oddity.
