It looks like Agent Maria Hill will be taking a brief absence from S.H.I.E.L.D to pursue her film career. (I would open with a How I Met Your Mother joke if the show weren’t offensively awful at this point).
Actress Cobie Smulders, last seen in the aforementioned Avengers, has signed on for two new film roles, according to Variety. The first is called Safe Haven, directed by Lasse Hallstrom and starring Josh Duhamel and Julianne Hough. The story apparently “follows a young woman whose arrival in a small North Carolina town prompts its tight-knit community to question her mysterious past. Smulders will play a neighbor.” Hmm. Sounds like a less-than-stellar role, but what about the next one?
It’s called They Came Together, starring the lovable Paul Rudd and helmed by Role Models director David Wain. This appears to be a bit of a bigger role for Smulders, as she will play Rudd’s girlfriend. Assuming the film is a comedy, this will hopefully allow Smulders to bust out the comic chops How I Met Your Mother has spent the better part of three solid seasons suppressing with a vengeance.
No word yet on when these films are set to arrive, but Smulders fans can at least rest easy knowing their girl has more work on the horizon.
