Daddy is homeward bound once more. After opening talks with Mel Gibson and John Lithgow about potentially joining the comedy sequel, Paramount Pictures has now earmarked Daddy’s Home 2 for release on November 10th, 2017.
Deadline has the news, confirming that the follow-up, one which reunites the dynamic duo of Will Ferrell and Mark Wahlberg (The Other Guys) for even more domestic shenanigans, will soon go up against Nativity story The Star, Show Dogs and Red Sparrow, the Russian spy thriller headed up by Jennifer Lawrence and Joel Edgerton. A November 10th due date is also one week shy of Zack Snyder’s Justice League movie, but given how the original Daddy’s Home was able to carve out an audience under the colossal shadow of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Paramount can look forward to the sequel’s arrival with some confidence.
[zergpaid]Sean Anders is back in the director’s chair, though plot details are currently few and far between. What we do know is that the first film scored a whopping $240 million worldwide, which really begs the question, can Anders and Co. capture lightning in a bottle twice? Comedy sequels tend to be a difficult butterfly to pin, and the likes of 22 Jump Street and Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising are really the more modern exceptions to the rule. The potential addition of Gibson and Lithgow indicates that Sean Anders is ready to spice up the formula, which may well involve all four fatherly figures locking horns on the big screen. Either way, we’ll be keeping a close eye on the sequel as it nears release.
After their wonderfully over-the-top brawl in the 2015 original, Will Ferrell (Brad Whitaker) and Mark Wahlberg (Dusty Mayron) will dust themselves down and prepare for round two when the Daddy’s Home sequel opens on November 10th.
