Pretty much every assassin in New York will be coming after Keanu Reeves in next year’s John Wick 3: Parabellum, so perhaps it was inevitable that this highly anticipated sequel wouldn’t find screen time for all the familiar faces from the character’s previous outings.
In an interview with Coming Soon, actor/rapper Common confirmed that he won’t be reprising his role as Cassian from John Wick: Chapter 2 in the upcoming trilogy-maker:
“I’m not in the third part, but I could say that I really loved being a part of John Wick 2 and it was an amazing experience. Working with Keanu [Reeves] and [director] Chad [Stahelski], they’re just phenomenal. Challenged and really passionate about the stuff, and I can say that [John Wick 3] is going to be incredible, though, I’ll tell you that much.”
In Wick’s last film, he and Cassian had a couple of tense exchanges that left both of them alive and with their beef unresolved, making it a little surprising that the pair won’t be settling the score in this next release. All the same, this threequel will hardly be at a loss for ways to fill its runtime, with director Chad Stahelski breaking down the movie’s content as follows:
“Horses, dogs, cats, a raven, a bunch of pigeons, a motorcycle chase, car chase, Halle Berry, Laurence Fishburne, Ian McShane, Lance Reddick, shotguns, and ninjas.”
We’re looking at a mixture of old and new ingredients here, with Fishburne, McShane, and Reddick all reprising their roles from the first two movies. Berry, meanwhile, is set to serve as just one more assassin in a series that’s never out of ways to use people in that line of work.
We’re also seeing a few animals on this list – including the horse previously witnessed in one meme-worthy official photo – and if this saga’s bloody history is anything to go by, then it’s not just the humans who need to watch their backs. In any case, we’ll find out how the multi-killer melee all unfolds when John Wick 3: Parabellum hits theaters on May 17th, 2019.
