A Comprehensive Guide To The Marvel Cinematic Universe

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is nothing short of amazing. Over the course of 8 films, 9 if you count next week's Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Marvel has weaved together an intricate universe of characters, stories, events and history, on both film and television. The incredible thing about it all is that it works. So much could have gone wrong but somehow, someway, it all flows together seamlessly to create a universe that's incredibly pleasing for both fans, and non-fans, of these famous comic book characters.

With the Aether in possession of the Asgardians, Volstagg and Sif give it to The Collector for safe keeping, stating that it is dangerous to have two of the Infinity Stones in Asgard; the other being the Tesseract, which Thor brought back at the end of The Avengers.

When Volstagg and Sif leave, The Collector malevolently states, “one down, five to go.”

Despite already suspecting that his trip to Tahiti was not so magical after all, Phil Coulson possesses no solid evidence that shows that Nick Fury has lied to him. He suffers from nightmares, and seems annoyed at constantly repeating the phrase “It’s a magical place” when talking about Tahiti. Still, he blindly trusts that his superior officers are doing the right thing, no matter what.

Nevertheless, he faces a tough decision when he is kidnapped by Raina – the girl in the flower dress who works for an alleged superhuman that goes by “the Clairvoyant” – and she asks him to tell her about the day he died, which he naturally remembers nothing about. However, with the help of a scanning device, Coulson experiences flashbacks of his surgery, and realizes that Fury keeps secrets even from his most trusted men.

Although the flashbacks are interrupted when Skye comes to the rescue and unhooks him from the apparatus, he is tormented by what he witnessed and demands answers. He eventually confronts Dr. Streiten—one of the many people responsible for revival—and questions their willingness to keep him alive regardless of his desire to die.

After a mission to intercept a package delivered to Ian Quinn goes awry, Skye is shot twice in the stomach by the villainous multimillionaire, who subsequently leaves her to bleed out. When the team finds her, she is unconscious and in desperate need of help, thus she is taken to a S.H.I.E.L.D. base where they are merely able to keep her stable.

As Fitz-Simmons go through the files regarding Coulson’s miraculous surgery, they find that he had not been operated at a S.H.I.E.L.D. base as they had previously assumed, but at an enigmatic location referred to as the “Guest House.” As soon as they arrive, two guards ask them for a password, which they do not possess. With the help of Agent John Garrett, the team manages to overpower and neutralize the guards, but find out afterward that the entire base is rigged.

Coulson is separated from his team and ends up going through a door that reads “T.A.H.I.T.I.,” where he finds the GH-325 that supposedly brought him back to life and its source—the dismembered body of a live blue humanoid. Later on, he unsuccessfully attempts to keep Simmons from injecting Skye with the drug.
