With the cast for Jurassic World firmly in place and the plot being kept under wraps, we are likely to continue to see bits and pieces of information drift out onto the web as the film heads into production. Today, some concept art for the island setting of Jurassic World hit the web, showing what looks to be a new spin on John Hammond’s original theme park.
The art depicts a high-modern, or even futuristic, island resort, with what appears to be little huts in a blue bay. A perfect place, in other words, for a bunch of rampaging dinos to tear apart. While the original Jurassic Park was constructed more as a theme park and zoo, this one seems to be more along the lines of a Disney World resort. But there are definitely shades of the original, with the looming mountain in the background and lush greenery just perfect for vicious little dinos to hide in. The results are predictable, of course – those dinosaurs are not going to stay outside, and the billionaire played by Irrfan Khan will have to grapple with the fact that his little paradise is going to be destroyed. As far as I’m concerned, the prettier the paradise, the more fun it will be to watch it collapse.
It’s going to be awhile before we actually see this art arrive as a fully-rendered environemnt on the big screen, but it’s a tantalizing glimpse into what could (and should) be. While director Colin Trevorrow and his crew are unlikely to change the basic structure of the Jurassic Park franchise – dinosaurs run amok as human heroes attempt to avoid being made into hamburger – they’re at least varying the look of the film while still paying homage to the original Jurassic Park.
