There’s an oft-used adage when it comes to comic books that states one simple pesudo-rule: no characters stay dead outside of Jason Todd and Uncle Ben. When it comes to the bit, superheroes always claw their way back onto the scene one way or the other, and if Lee Pace has his way, the actor would be pulling a similar feat to return for Guardians of the Galaxy 2.
In an interview with IGN, Pace gushed about his experience working with James Gunn and Co., revealing that he would jump at the chance to reprise his role as Ronan the Accuser should the opportunity present itself — or, more importantly, if the MCU continuity permits it.
I loved that film. I was so proud to be a part of that whole fun moment. I found the character very, very interesting, exceptionally, and in playing him — this kind of charismatic space terrorist. The idea is fascinating. I had to kind of crack the way the character thought. For me, I think he’s doing what’s right for his people. He’s going to right a wrong. He’s annihilating the weak in favor of the strong. That’s a different set of values, and he’s fighting for them.
Alas, it seems unlikely that Gunn and Marvel would opt to include Pace in the sequel without dramatically altering his role. Besides, it’s almost a bygone conclusion that Guardians 2 will switch gears to focus on another villain and how the galactic ragtag crew stand with Thanos.
Either way, Pace went on to discuss his newfound love for comic book lore, revealing that he would love nothing more to star in another superhero film at some point in the future. Given how uunrecognizablehe was in Guardians and the sheer amount of genre films cramming up the pipeline, the actor may soon find his wish granted.
Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will arrive in theaters on May 5, 2017.
