The Crow Takes Off With Luke Evans

It's about time. After acting as a revolving door for a whole handful of actors, The Crow has finally found its lead in Luke Evans. The F. Javier Gutierrez-directed reboot had been chasing after a number of actors to play the role of Eric Draven. Most recently, Tom Hiddleston was flirting with the part but obviously, that didn't pan out. Evans was actually the original choice but due to his increasingly busy schedule, he wasn't sure if he'd have time to do the film.

It’s about time. After a long search for a leading man, The Crow has finally found its star in Luke Evans. The F. Javier Gutierrez-directed reboot had been chasing after a number of actors to play the role of Eric Draven. Most recently, Tom Hiddleston was flirting with the part but obviously, that didn’t pan out. Evans was actually the original choice but due to his increasingly busy schedule, he wasn’t sure if he’d have time to do the film.

The actor has definitely been seeing his plate becoming quite cluttered lately. He was cast as the lead in Dracula Year Zero not too long ago, he’ll show up in December as Bard the Bowman in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and later this month he’ll appear as the villain in Fast & Furious 6.

Due to production on Dracula Year Zero and the press tour for The Hobbit, it originally looked like Evans wouldn’t be able to squeeze in The Crow. Fortunately, the producers pushed the start date to early next year in order to accomodate Evans and now he’s all set to star in the film.

The actor doesn’t have too many big credits to his name but I enjoyed him in both The Raven and Immortals, despite the films themselves being less than enjoyable. I’m also hearing that he’s quite effective as the villain in the upcoming Fast & Furious 6. He’s still yet to see a significant big break but hopefully, The Crow will be his chance to dive head first onto the A-list, if he isn’t able to do so before then.

As for the remake itself, I’m a fan of the original so it’d be a shame to see this one turn out poorly. I’m ok with Evans in the lead role but can’t say I’m thrilled, especially considering some of the other names that have been circling the project. Hopefully it all works out though because the 1994 version was quite good and has a pretty big following.
