We need to talk about Chucky.
You know him, of course; he’s the pint-sized demon that has stalked our nightmares ever since the original Child’s Play movie of ’88, back when Charles Lee Ray’s critter was still fresh on Hollywood’s horror scene. Fast forward to the here and now, and after five other entries into the cult series, we’re now teetering on the verge of Cult of Chucky, Don Mancini’s long-awaited horror sequel that builds on the foundations laid by 2013’s Curse of Chucky.
Yes, it’s been four long years since the red-haired little prick scurried onto our screens, and ahead of Cult‘s release in two months’ time, the folks at Bloody Disgusting have relayed yet another spooky image from the film in which that famous Devil Doll is seen taunting one of his hapless victims. Peer a little closer, though, and you’ll see that his hand is strangely deformed, as though it’s some odd hybrid of a human/doll.
Exactly how this scene factors into the movie is anyone’s guess, and with an early October launch date in place, it’ll be some time yet before we have some firm answers for you to peruse. Nevertheless, until that day arrives, be sure to leave your own thoughts and predictions via the usual place.
Story-wise, we know Cult of Chucky will unfold as so:
Confined to an asylum for the criminally insane for the past four years, Nica Pierce (Fiona Dourif) is erroneously convinced that she, not Chucky, murdered her entire family. But when her psychiatrist introduces a new therapeutic “tool” to facilitate his patients’ group sessions — an all-too-familiar “Good Guy” doll with an innocently smiling face — a string of grisly deaths begins to plague the asylum, and Nica starts to wonder if maybe she isn’t crazy after all. Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent), Chucky’s now-grown-up nemesis from the original Child’s Play, races to Nica’s aid. But to save her he’ll have to get past Tiffany (Oscar-nominee Jennifer Tilly), Chucky’s long-ago bride, who will do anything, no matter how deadly or depraved, to help her beloved devil doll.
Now that Annabelle: Creation has loomed over theaters (our review), all eyes in horror are beginning to turn toward Cult of Chucky ahead of its release on October 3rd. It’s a direct-to-home-video launch, too, meaning Don Mancini’s sequel will arrive alongside the comprehensive Chucky: Complete 7-Movie Collection.
