Dan Aykroyd Says Bill Murray Is Out Of Ghostbusters 3

The saga of bringing Ghostbusters 3 to the big screen has gone on forever now and is probably nowhere near finished. On one hand you have Bill Murray, the pessimist, who has flip-flopped on being in the film over the years, and on the other hand you have Dan Aykroyd, the optimist, who seems to feed new info to the Internet every time he gives an interview.

So when the optimist says the pessimist is out, you have to believe there’s some finality here. Aykroyd told U.K. publication Metro that Murray “won’t be involved” and that he’s ready to move on.

“It’s sad but we’re passing it on to a new generation. Ghostbusters 3 can be a successful movie without Bill. My preference would be to have him involved but at this point he doesn’t seem to be coming and we have to move on. It’s time to make the third one.”

Things do seem to be coming together for the three-quel at last. Sony hired its Men in Black III writer Etan Cohen to write the script last month based on a concept Aykroyd says the studio is behind. All we know is it will involve passing the torch to a new generation of Ghostbusters.

Aykroyd says Ghostbusters 3 should enter production next year. Whether you’re excited for it or not, let’s all hope that will indeed be the case so we can move on from this for once and for all.
