Dan Aykroyd And Ernie Hudson React To The Ghostbusters 3 Trailer

Ghostbusters 3 is a project that Columbia Pictures has been trying to make happen for many years, with the sequel starting its troubled journey long before Paul Feig’s 2016 reboot came our way. So while Dan Aykroyd seemed fairly optimistic about the film in interviews last year, many of us still had our doubts that the long-awaited follow-up would ever see the light of day.

That all changed this week though with the announcement that Jason Reitman is set to follow in his father Ivan Reitman’s footsteps with a Ghostbusters film that keeps in line with the continuity of the first two movies. And if you needed further evidence that Columbia is serious this time about getting this feature into cinemas, the news was soon followed by an early teaser, which confirmed a comeback for the old Ecto-1.

What’s more, the original Ghostbuster car may not be the only returning element from the first two movies to feature in film number three, with Dan Aykroyd and Ernie Hudson each taking to Twitter in quick succession to voice their support for the teaser. First off, responding to Reitman’s claim that he “found the car,” Aykroyd wrote:

“If you need a tune-up, you know who to call #GB20”

Hudson, in turn, shared this message, while adding:

“Bigger than a 100-ft marshmallow man!”

So, we know that the movie has their blessing, but does that mean we’ll see them in front of the camera? Well, we’ve yet to hear any official casting announcements, but it certainly looks that way.

For one thing, Aykroyd was really the first person last year to give us any real indication that Ghostbusters 3 was actually happening, while teasing that “There is a possibility of a reunion with the three remaining Ghostbusters.” And while Bill Murray has yet to be heard from on the matter, Aykroyd seemed cautiously optimistic that he’d be game to return. Either way, this threequel will be hitting theaters in summer 2020.
