Of all the superheroes that Marvel don’t currently have rights to, Daredevil is probably the last one you want to see revert back. Who doesn’t want to see Spider-Man or Wolverine head back to camp Marvel and join The Avengers? Am I right?
In any case, with Spider-Man having just secured himself a trilogy following Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man, and Wolverine getting yet another film next year, it seems if any superhero is likely to revert, it’s Daredevil. Fox has been trying to reboot the character for a while after Mark Steven Johnson’s misguided 2003 effort, but their failure to do so means rights could soon go back to Marvel.
The A-Team director Joe Carnahan was last in line to get the reboot off the ground – which needs to get started by October 10 to avoid losing production rights – but even that project isn’t looking too hopeful. Carnahan Tweeted last night (via Coming Soon):
Think my idea for a certain retro, red-suited, Serpico-styled superhero went up in smoke today kids.
We shall see. Time is NOT on anyone’s side.
So things aren’t looking good. Daredevil was never really part of the Avengers (though he did lead to the start of the New Avengers), and if he does revert back it’s unlikely we’d see him in Joss Whedon’s Avengers 2 (landing in 2015). But with the recent quality output from Marvel studios, even a reboot by them could prove to turn things around from the last outing.
