Though it hasn’t been confirmed just yet, many people think that The Defenders (Iron Fist, Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage) will be teaming up with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes for Avengers: Infinity War. Again, we haven’t been told this by Marvel, but given that the Russo brothers revealed that there could be as many as 67 characters in the film, it does seem likely.
One would assume that if Marvel were to bring The Defenders into the fold, then they would use the same actors who play the characters on television, right? Well, not necessarily. According to Daredevil star Charlie Cox, he hasn’t been contacted about Infinity War yet and isn’t even sure if he’ll be playing the Man Without Fear should he indeed show up in the film.
“Marvel TV and Marvel Studios are two very different things. So even if the character were to appear in that film, that doesn’t necessarily mean that I would appear in that film. I will pick a fight with the guy that they choose.”
Of course, Cox may very well be able to appear on the big screen, as just because he hasn’t received the phone call yet doesn’t necessarily mean that Marvel is looking to recast. At this stage, it’s simply too early to tell. At the very least, however, what we can take away from this comment is that Cox is by no means a lock to play Daredevil if the character eventually moves to the film world.
Avengers: Infinity War – Part 1 won’t release until May 4th, 2018, so we’ve got a long ways to go before we find out anything for sure. In the meantime, though, be sure to catch Cox in action when Daredevil returns to Netflix on March 18th.
