The spectacular first teaser for X-Men: Dark Phoenix is now available for your viewing pleasure, and if it’s a frame-by-frame breakdown you’re after, Collider has relayed a series of HD screenshots designed to take us closer to the cosmic action. And Jean Grey’s downfall.
We begin with a flashback scene to Jean’s troubled childhood, back when she witnessed the death of her parents first-hand, only to be shipped off to Charles Xavier’s School for Gifted Youngsters. It isn’t long before she’s placed under quarantine after an X-Men rescue mission goes awry, ultimately leading to that dramatic transformation.
All of this (and much more!) can be glimpsed in the gallery below, which also features a bleach-blonde Jessica Chastain, whose mystery character stirs uncertainty and doubt within Jean Grey by telling her that she’s no longer welcome within the X-community. All of these emotions bubble to the surface once Sophie Turner’s troubled lead encounters the Phoenix Force and, well, the rest is history.
See for yourself:
You’ll also notice that a number of mutants (Storm, Beast, etc.) appear to be attending an X-Men funeral. Could it be that Simon Kinberg’s Dark Phoenix is about to upend the series timeline with a tragic plot twist? Who knows, but the fact that Mystique featured so prominently in last night’s fiery teaser has many people thinking that Jennifer Lawrence’s shape-shifting mutant may be one of Jean’s first victims, leading to a major split within the X-family…
X-Men: Dark Phoenix, also starring Michael Fassbender, Jessica Chastain, Tye Sheridan, Kodi Smit-McPhee, Evan Peters, and Alexandra Shipp, has officially been cleared for take-off. Its ETA? February 14th, 2019, so plan your Valentine’s Day accordingly…
