With Avengers: Infinity War now officially in production, all eyes are trained firmly on Marvel’s upcoming behemoth of a film to see if directors Joe and Anthony Russo can deliver. It’s a monumental task they’ve taken on, to be sure, and while they pulled off Captain America: Civil War with aplomb, this is a whole different beast entirely. Infinity War is quite possibly one of, if not the most ambitious comic book movies of all-time, and there’s a lot riding on it.
One question that’s on the minds of many is which characters will be involved here? Of course, we know that all the usual suspects will show up (Iron Man, Captain America, Thor, the Hulk, Hawkeye, Black Widow, etc.), but they’ll also have some help in the form of the Guardians of the Galaxy, Spider-Man, Doctor Strange and more. While Marvel is still to release a complete, official cast list, it’s starting to seem like every living character in the MCU will be showing their face here, and that might be problematic.
As much as we’d love to see all our favorite heroes come together to fight big bad Thanos, there may not be enough room in Infinity War for everyone and we wouldn’t want to see the film become too bloated for its own good. Unfortunately, though, it looks like that could potentially happen. According to Dave Bautista, who plays Drax, the superhero epic won’t be holding back when it comes to roping in the entire roster of characters.
Speaking to Collider in a recent interview, here’s what the actor had to share:
“I don’t think anybody who is a current character is not going to be in Infinity War,” he laughed. “That’s just my opinion. I haven’t gotten confirmation on who all is going to be in the film, but I think that they’re really going to go all-out on this.”
So, there you have it. Bautista might not have confirmation, but given how heavily involved in the blockbuster he is, we’re inclined to believe that he knows what he’s talking about. And even if it’s not every single “current character,” we imagine it’s the vast majority of them. After all, are there any notable heroes who haven’t been linked to the film in one way or another yet? Seriously, it seems like the entire Marvel Cinematic Universe will be stopping by for this sure to be epic movie.
How this will all play out remains to be seen. Like we mentioned above, the directors proved their worth in Civil War, but this is obviously a much bigger undertaking. There have been many films in the past, particularly ones based on comic books, that try to stuff in as many characters as possible just to please fans, only to be weighed down by their own ambition.
Will Avengers: Infinity War fall victim to the same thing? We’re hopeful that it won’t, but with the flick still so far off, it’s going to be a terribly long time before we find out for sure.
