After giving us the brilliant and often under-appreciated Panic Room, director David Fincher is looking to head back into panic mode again with a new film called Panic Attack. Vulture tells us that Fincher has optioned Jason Starr‘s novel of the same name. Ted Griffin (Ocean’s Eleven) will be in charge of the script.
The film will follow “a New York shrink who shoots and kills a home intruder, then faces a media frenzy and the victim’s vengeful accomplice.” Sounds a tad bit similar to Panic Room but still very interesting. Whether Fincher will act as just producer or both producer and director is still up in the air but either way, the project, which is set up at Fincher’s Panic Pictures, sounds like it has potential.
Speaking on the novel, Starr told Vulture the following:
And the thing about Panic Attack is that there’s a really compelling antihero in this guy Johnny Long [the revenge-minded cohort stalking the psychiatrist and his family],” says Starr. “He’s a very clever, Ripley-esque psychopath.”
While David Fincher is currently at work on The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, it shouldn’t be too long before we hear more on Panic Attack. Whether Fincher produces or produces and directs, I’ll be keeping an eye on this one. Anything he’s involved in is worth your attention as he’s currently one of the most interesting directors working in Hollywood.

Carlos Sanchez wasn’t expecting anyone to be home, much less have an entire clip emptied into him as he reached the top of the stairs of the brownstone he breaks into in Forest Hills Gardens, Queens.
